Layers
Layers let you add extra visual elements on top of your screenshots — emoji, badges, notification banners, images, and highlight boxes.
Layer Types
Screenshot Master supports 5 layer types:
Bezel Slot
An additional device frame on your screenshot. Each screenshot starts with one bezel, but you can add more to show multiple screens side by side or create comparison layouts. Bezel slots have the same options as the main bezel — device model, scale, rotation, shadow, and their own app screenshot image. See Customizing Screenshots for all bezel options.
Emoji
A single emoji character displayed on the screenshot. Great for adding visual accents.
- Character — any emoji
- Font Size — 10 to 200px
Notification Banner
A realistic iOS notification banner. Use it to showcase a feature or call-to-action.
- App Name — the name displayed in the banner
- Text — the notification message
- Time — display time (type a custom time or use "now")
- App Icon — drag an image or use the image picker
- Appearance — Light or Dark mode style
- Apply App Info — if your app is linked to App Store Connect, click this button to auto-fill the app name and icon
Badge
A red notification badge (like the ones on app icons). Useful for drawing attention.
- Value — number displayed (1–99)
- Color — badge color (default: red)
Image Overlay
A custom image displayed on the screenshot. Use it for logos, arrows, stickers, or any visual element.
- Image — drag an image or use the image picker
- Content Mode — pan and zoom the image within its frame
- Lock Content — prevent accidentally moving the image inside the frame
Highlight Box
A rectangular frame to highlight parts of the app screenshot. Can also contain an image.
- Same options as Image Overlay
- Corner Radius — Auto or custom value
- Stroke — add a border with customizable color, opacity, and width
Add a Layer
Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the layer list in the left sidebar. Choose from:
- Bezel Slot
- Highlight Box
- Image Overlay
- Emoji
- Notification
- Badge
The new layer is added on top of existing layers.
Select & Edit a Layer
Click a layer in the layer list (left sidebar) or directly on the canvas to select it. The right panel updates to show that layer's options.
Common Options
All layers share these properties:
- Name — rename by double-clicking in the layer list
- Opacity — 0% to 100%
- Hide / Show — toggle visibility with the eye icon in the layer list
- Z-Index — stacking order (higher = on top)
Position & Transform
Use the position toolbar in the inspector or drag directly on the canvas:
- X / Y offset — position the layer
- Scale — resize (0.1x to 3x)
- Rotation — rotate (-180° to 180°, snaps to 45° increments)
- Center X / Center Y — snap to center
- Reset — restore default position
Layers snap to the center when dragged close to it.
Duplicate a Layer
Right-click on a layer in the layer list and select "Duplicate". The copy is placed on top with the same settings.
Delete a Layer
Right-click on a layer in the layer list and select "Remove". The layer is permanently deleted.
Reorder Layers
Drag layers in the layer list to reorder them. The stacking order on the canvas updates automatically.
Per-Locale & Per-Format Layers
Layers support per-format and per-locale overrides. This means you can:
- Position a layer differently on iPhone vs iPad
- Show different notification text per locale
- Use a different image overlay for each language
The override system follows the same sync options as the rest of the project. When no override exists, layers inherit from the default format and locale.
